Less commonly, adrenal insufficiency occurs when the pituitary gland either decreases in size or stops producing ACTH.
Addison’s disease is named after Dr. Thomas Addison, the British physician who first described the condition in 1849. The adjective “Addisonian” is used to describe features of the condition, as well as patients suffering from Addison’s disease.
Additionally, your health care provider may advise you to always wear a Medic-Alert tag (such as a bracelet) alerting health care professionals that you have this condition in case of emergency.
